We're Looking for Photographers! |

We are starting work on The Michigan Heart Gallery's 2010 exhibit and volunteer photographers are needed to make next year's exhibit a success.
For many of our children the Heart Gallery will be the first time they have ever had a professional photo taken. It may also be one of their best chances to connect with someone who will become their family.
We've had the good fortune of working with some of Michigan's best photographers. These photographers have donated their time and talent to create stunning photos of our children. In return they take away the knowledge they have made a difference in the child's life and many of our photographers have volunteered year after year.
If you are interested in volunteering to photograph for The Michigan Heart Gallery, you can do so by filling out our registration form.
If you'd like to see some more information about volunteering please continue reading.

There are many different things we consider a success for The Michigan Heart Gallery.
Just the seemingly simple act of having a photographer create a child's portrait can provide one success, showing the child that they are important. Whether they are dressed up and in a photo studio, or dressed down and having run in a park, they realize our photographers have taken their time to give the kids a chance to shine. We make sure all of our kids get framed copies of their photos to have forever.
But our biggest success is when one of our kids is adopted into a family. Sometimes it's because of their appearance in The Michigan Heart Gallery, or through the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange or even a foster parent realized they just don't want them to leave. Whatever why it happens, it's our hope it brings them a better life.
Since the opening of the current Heart Gallery exhibit, we've had 21 of our featured children become matched with a family. Being is matched is the first step toward adopting one of our children. Once they are matched, the family and children get a chance to get to know each other better, and learn a little more about each other as they move toward a formal adoption.
For the children below, we hope for their lives to continue to grow and for them to become the best person they can possibly be.

Special Thanks - Detroit Free Press |

In the four years since the beginning of The Michigan Heart Gallery we've received tremendous support from many people and organizations. In 2005, our first year, 12 of our photos came from Detroit Free Press photographers Kathleen Galligan and Richard Lee. The Free Press also ran several articles on the Heart Gallery. Over the next couple of years the Free Press continued their coverage of The Michigan Heart Gallery and photographer Kathleen Galligan continued to document the lives of some of the children from her initial photos.
This year the Free Press published a special report of those children, a group of boys living at Christ Child House, a residential treatment center in Detroit. Several of the boys featured have been adopted by families, while others remain at Christ Child House or in the foster care system. While the Heart Gallery is able to provide a glimpse of the many children |
